Tokonoma Project (Under Construction)
Tokonoma is a recessed space in a traditional Japanese style room where art objects such as paintings, drawings, or sculptures are displayed. Unfortunately the space has been converted to a storage or closet in recent years as Japanese lifestyle has changed dramatically after the war; it is not even uncommon to find a traditional Japanese house or apartment without having Tokonoma these days.
I would like to explore new possibilities for this disappearing space, which has been dedicated to present artworks for more than 500 years, by curating a series of installations and performances in relation to life in Tokyo, Japan, Asia or life in general. The inaugural exhibition is coming soon, so stay tuned and I will keep you updated.
